Equity and excellence

Since it has proved to be gravely difficult to reach people thought the podcast, I’ve decided to focus on the Harvard website. The site focuses on the global outreach to help bridge the gaps associate with education and health. I learned so much just reading about the global socioeconomic status that it was not only informations but sad at the same time. There are many different organizations that have partnered with each other to make an impact on their country. For example, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico has partnered with other Latin organizations to help bring science into early childhood programs. Research groups have begun working together to understand how the brain develops so information can be shared with other organizations. The Latin culture has really been pushing for he innovation aspect when it comes to education. The issue with these organizations tends to be funding and how to spread the word about what they’re doing to gain the interest of others. Once these issues are ...

Sharing web resources continued...

There are endless articles and blogs on the NAEYC website. So much that it could be overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Fortunately I know what I enjoy looking for. My focus revolved around early childhood education and the changes in the education curriculum. The resources section gives you the option to choose what age group you want to focus on. The young child articles are dedicated to birth through three years. Some articles in the current months addition focus on STEAM in the classroom along with introducing poetry for children to have another voice to be heard through. The poetry article really made me think about a child’s emotional development. Poetry can be another outlet for children to express themselves.       The website subtly mentions things in a scientific and economist stand point. Politicians aren’t mentioned but it can be assumed that they would be gathering information from this site to benefit them in...

Getting to know your international contact

My international contacts name is Ty Nyu. She is from the Philippines and currently resides in a city outside of Leyte which is a rural city that suffers from extreme poverty. Their main source of income is farming and fishing are what keeps some food on the table for them. Jobs are hard to find in these areas. Ty informed me that many of her friends and family have done everything possible to get out of their country and go someone where there are better jobs, health care, and opportunities for their children. More than 80% of the people that live in rural areas are dealing with poverty and resources to help them aren’t readily available unless you live in the suburbs. Which depending on where you live in the Philippines it’s quite the commute to get there cost wise and time. Ty expressed to me that many families main concern were their children before themselves. Many of the rural areas are behind on the economic growth which has increased their underemployment rate. Reduction in fis...

Sharing web resources

My website that I’ve been paying close attention to is the NAEYC site. Www.naeyc.org. This site gives so much information it can at times be overwhelming but it’s all useful. Scribing to this site is expensive but you can always access any information you need without becoming a member. As soon as I accessed this page the first article that caught my eye was an article about PreK programs. It’s an article that makes an attempt about defining what a PreK program is. The common misconception is that it’s no different than daycare. However it’s a program that’s designed specifically for preschoolers to make sure they ar ready for kindergarten (Colker, n.d). About 70% of PreK programs are in public schools. (Colker, n.d). Currently families aren’t required to attend a PreK program but in th growing years this could potentially change. This is such a useful article as I express to families with children the importance of a PreK program as opposed to them just being at home or with a nanny...

Expanding Resources

The NAEYC website is the site that I chose to invest my time learning about. It provides resources that I consider beneficial to my educational career. At one point I was living in Washington DC which is the central headquarters. I was able to take a tour of their facility and ask additional questions about what they do. I have reached out to the coordinator of the website to gather some more information about early childhood resources and informed them about th class I’m taking. I’m excited to hear back from them in the near future.  After breezing through the NAEYC website I found valuable resources such as webinars, blogs, and even articles dedicated to early childhood. NAEYC also has an annual conference that helps educators enhance their educational learning with various speakers/presenters hosting each year. I’m excited to read more about issues and trends in the early childhood field based on their point of view.
