Being located to a new country with just my immediate family scares me a lot. I don't know how I will accepted, I don't know what to expect, nor do I have any idea of the cultural beliefs they may have. I will embrace this change as I would anything else for the benefit of my family. There are so many items that I would bring with me but my three most prized possessions would be my Pandora charm bracelet that has charms based on milestones in my life (being a mother, graduating, moving to PA, etc). I would also bring a picture of my extended family so my immediate family can always hold those memories close to them. Finally, I would like to bring my Tigger stuffed animal. It may sound silly but it's one of those things I've had with me since I could remember. This stuffed animal symbolizes that no matter what happens I can be just as resilient as Tigger and bounce back from any obstacles.
If I was only allowed to keep one of these items I would be very upset and torn between making this decision. It was hard enough to choice three items and now that is being denoted to one. If I had to choose it would be a picture of my family. I'm not big into materialistic items, but i'd rather have picture to share with my children and their future generations so they know where they came from culturally. From this assignment I realized that dynamics in your life can change at a moments notice. Being culturally receptive and aware is the sure way to ensure that you're able to adapt to the changes.
Being culturally aware and receptive is what I have taken from your post. Our children may be losing identity and that is one way to keep them drilled into respect, love of life, and endurance as seasons come and seasons go. Love your post, Jazmine!
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to the idea of being resilient and always bouncing back from trials and tribulations. I'm happy you have something that can give that spirit to you in the physical form for me mine is something that's not tangible however the value isn't any less. We all have things we value and its so awesome to see how diverse we all are but we share so many things in common.
