My website that I’ve been paying close attention to is the NAEYC site. Www.naeyc.org. This site gives so much information it can at times be overwhelming but it’s all useful. Scribing to this site is expensive but you can always access any information you need without becoming a member.

As soon as I accessed this page the first article that caught my eye was an article about PreK programs. It’s an article that makes an attempt about defining what a PreK program is. The common misconception is that it’s no different than daycare. However it’s a program that’s designed specifically for preschoolers to make sure they ar ready for kindergarten (Colker, n.d). About 70% of PreK programs are in public schools. (Colker, n.d). Currently families aren’t required to attend a PreK program but in th growing years this could potentially change. This is such a useful article as I express to families with children the importance of a PreK program as opposed to them just being at home or with a nanny. This is a beneficial article for any child care program or even educator to have with them.

  1. Hi Jazmine, I agree with the NAEYC article....the importance of a Pre-K program. I have taught many children with no prior educational exposure at a daycare nor at a pre-k program. I have found many children struggling even at kindergarten to learn the basic foundational skills. I believe it is beneficial for children to have the opportunity to attend some type of educational program before entering school.

  2. Hi Jazmine,
I also feel that PreK programs are important. I have taught PreK for over a decade. The children have changed since I first started teaching. There are more social issues that come up. It is important for them to start in a program before Kindergarten so they have time to grow and gain the tools they need.

  3. Hi Jazmine,

I agree with you that it is so important to educate people on the importance of preschool and its difference from daycare. The center where I work is a preschool with certified teachers, a research-based curriculum, and a standard evaluation system, and we frequently find ourselves trying to educate others on the difference between preschool and day care, and that we are not a daycare, we are a school. The work that we do to prepare our children for Kindergarten is so important, expecially in areas where the achievement gap is so wide.

  5. I think that it is good that they made an effort to define what a PreK program is. It's great that the information can be used to show parents and families how important a Pre K program is. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    Sincerely,
